David was a project architect for Bligh Voller Nield Architects on the L5 building in Sydney, Australia.

The L5 Building, at the University of New South Wales, is an education building that leads new students into the university and, particularly in computer and information technology, provides leadership at the completion of post graduate studies.

The construction is an exercise in the craft of insitu concrete. The insitu concrete, as opposed to say precasting, allows the blades to be both structure and ‘brise-soleil’.

The limited palette of materials, off-white concrete, timber and glass gives the building a directness that allows its materiality to read. The timber adds warmth while the white cement prevents greyness and lack of light in the concrete.
