Architect Or Architectural Technologist for RIBA Stage 4 (Technical Design)
THAA Architects are seeking an experienced Architect or Architectural Technologist to produce detailed technical drawings and specifications for RIBA Stage 4 (Technical Design) on residential projects, and experience in other sectors is beneficial. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, construction detailing, material specifications, contract administration and overseeing site works.
Key Responsibilities:
Produce high-quality construction drawings, schedules, and specifications.
Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations and industry standards.
Coordinate with clients, structural engineers, consultants, and contractors.
Resolve technical design issues and provide buildable solutions.
Use Revit, AutoCAD, etc. to produce working drawings.
Assist clients with tendering.
Liaise with Building Control.
Attend site meetings (if required) and provide technical support during construction.
Overseeing the planning process post planning approval i.e. discharge of conditions.
Requirements:
Qualified Architect (ARB and RIBA) or Architectural Technologist (CIAT).
Minimum 5 years’ experience in detailed residential design.
Proficiency in Revit / AutoCAD / Sketchup / Adobe Suite / Microsoft Office.
Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, NHBC standards, LABC and construction detailing.
Strong knowledge of Health and Safety and experience as a Principal Designer.
Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
Experience in collaborating with structural engineers, M&E consultants, Energy Assessors etc. and contractors.
Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills for client interface.
Desirable:
Experience with Passivhaus / sustainable design principles.
Familiarity with tendering and construction contract administration.
Knowledge of modern methods of construction (MMC).

Open to freelance, part-time or full-time candidates across the UK. Remuneration will be based on candidates experience and contractual arrangement.
THAA’s design studio is based in Morpeth, Northumberland, with additional hubs in Newcastle and Cambridge. Flexible remote and hybrid working options are available.
